Description

Technical Overview and Functional Specifications of the Gauge Pig (Profile Pig)

The Gauge Pig, alternatively termed the Profile Pig, is a specialized pipeline inspection tool engineered to assess geometric integrity and identify operational anomalies within pipelines. Its design incorporates advanced mechanical and tracking components to ensure precise evaluation during traversal.

Structural Composition and Operational Design

  1. Primary Components:

    • Sealing System: Utilizes four polyurethane sealing discs to maintain pressure-driven propulsion and ensure a consistent seal against the pipeline wall.

    • Guidance Mechanism: Equipped with two guiding discs to stabilize movement through bends and irregularities.

    • Inspection Modules:

      • Bend Plate: Positioned centrally to measure the minimum bend radius of the pipeline, ensuring compliance with geometric tolerances.

      • Gauge Plate: Installed at the rear to detect internal diameter (ID) reductions or obstructions, such as weld intrusions or ovality.

    • Tracking System: An integrated transmitter enables real-time location monitoring during operation.

Functional Applications

The Gauge Pig is deployed to diagnose the following pipeline conditions:

  1. Geometric Deformations:

    • Minimum allowable bend radius compliance.

    • Ovality, dents, or buckling in pipe sections.

  2. Flow Restrictions:

    • ID reductions due to corrosion, scale buildup, or mechanical obstructions.

    • Partially open valves or blockages.

  3. Welding Anomalies:

    • Hot tap weld penetrations or weld bead protrusions.

  4. Material Degradation:

    • Obstructions caused by corrosive agents or internal coating failures.

Configuration Notes and Customization Guidelines

  1. Standard Configuration:

    • Long-Distance Pipelines: Includes four spacers and two guiding discs by default. Modifications are available for non-standard geometries.

    • Wye Tee Junctions: Requires an additional cleaning section and mechanical joint assembly, incurring supplementary costs.

  2. Material Specifications:

    • Base pricing assumes galvanized steel wire brushes; pencil brushes (if required) entail extra charges.

    • Polyurethane Components: Mold costs are billed separately for low-volume or non-standard orders.

  3. Specialized Requirements:

    • Internally Coated Pipelines: Additional costs apply for brush and gauge tools to prevent coating damage.

    • Corrosive Environments: Pipelines transporting H₂S (>2%), butane, or liquids exceeding 220 km require custom quotations due to enhanced material specifications.

  4. Customization Services:

    • Tailored designs for launcher/receiver systems and pig configurations are available upon request.

Commercial and Technical Exceptions

The standard pricing structure is not applicable for:

  • High-corrosion fluid/gas transport (e.g., H₂S, butane).

  • Pipelines exceeding 150 km (gas) or 220 km (liquid).

  • Non-standard operating conditions.
